Awards & Recognitions
Highly Honored Award in the 2007 Nature’s Best Windland Rice International Photography Contest. My image was a monarch butterfly in flight. My photograph was also used that year for the front cover of the Loudoun Country Day School calendar and was a finalist in the 2007 Inner Reflections Calendar.
First Place, Washington Post 2008 Youth Photography Contest for the Animals Category. My image was a beaver swimming in the Dry Fork River at War, West Virginia.
Second Place, Washington Post 2009 Youth Photography Contest for the Animals Category. My award winning image was a baby squirrel that I photographed in my backyard.
Highly Commended Award – 2009 Veolia/BBC International Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award, Youth Category. This contest is held in London, England. Again, my image was a young beaver swimming in the Dry Fork River of southern West Virginia.
All ten of the images that I submitted to this contest made the semi-final round, with five making it all the way to the final round. Only 95 images from more than 43,000 entries were selected for recognition. My award winning image will be on display at the Museum of Natural History in London and then will be part of a world-wide traveling exhibit of the winning images. My image also appeared in the coffee-table book, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Portfolio 19, published by BBC Books in London, England and the children’s nature magazine, Aquila.
My images have been used for various publications of the Defenders of Wildlife. Most recently, Defenders used my image of two bison bulls sparring each other in Yellowstone National Park. Last year Defenders used one of my pika images for their annual report.
Public Speaking
Starting in July 2007, I joined my dad in giving presentations about out nature photography and love for nature. In my first program, I received a standing ovation from more than 200 resource professionals in attendance at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV. I was eight at the time.
My presentation at the Meadowlark Photo Expo
I also assisted my dad in nature photography programs presented at the Defenders of Wildlife Conservation Workshop held in Yellowstone National Park in August 2008 and 2009.
